Local singers get chance to win $10,000 at July’s Beachfest

Talented local singers could scoop a $10,000 prize at this summer’s Beachfest Crown Song Competition.

The contest is open only to Bermuda residents, both amateurs and professionals, who can submit an original radio friendly song between three and four minutes in length by June 27.

The winners will be declared at Beachfest on Horseshoe Beach on the first day of Cup Match (July 31).

Entry fee is $25 and a maximum of two songs will be allowed from one artist.

The final ten songs will be played on Vibe103FM radio and televised on the Bermuda Sports Network while the final five will be performed live at Beachfest.

PRS For Music, the music rights organisation, and the Chewstick Foundation are organising the competition.

Deidra-Lee Bean, administrative officer of Chewstick, said: “The Beachfest Crown Song Competition will provide the opportunity for both amateur and professional Bermudian and resident artists to compete to see who can make the number one hit of the summer.

“As this is a competition designed to support local artists and grow cultural appreciation, songs that cover themes such as Bermuda, Emancipation, and/or Summer will be more competitive.”

Chewstick Foundation’s mission is “to empower storytelling, creative expression and social justice, to enrich youth, arts, and culture and community.”

“It has become an epicentre of local musical and artistic talent and hopes this contest will not only promote togetherness and support of Bermudian artists, but will also continue to encourage the recognition of Bermuda’s history and authentic culture,” added Mr Bean.
