Kudos to the Foster Parents Association

June 4, 2014

Dear Sir,

I would like to thank the Foster Parents Association for one of the most organised golf tournaments I have ever played in. To see hundreds of people out supporting such a worthy case was amazing. The organisers Lindsay and Tracey did such a great job. Everyone was raving about it.

At the end of the three day tournament I watched as my fellow golfers tried their luck at $1 million and a bike from Bermuda Motors. I have never seen a crowd of golfers standing around watching. The golfers from days before showed up with their clubs ready to have a swing at it. They had so many prizes from the money to cars, to bikes, travel vouchers and so much more. The Foster Parents Association went over and beyond to make this tournament, the tournament of the year. I played in the Blackie Talbot for years and enjoyed it but the Foster Parents tournament has taken over. I see in the future this is going to be the tournament everyone who plays golf signs up for. The association fed us, gave us wonderful goodie bags and the prizes were over the top great.

The organisation also had a young lady name Deidra who sang and was Tracey’s foster child that aged out she did a wonderful job and talking with her she said she was grateful for her foster parents. Deidra made the whole tournament ever more personal. We are able to see someone our contribution helps. Tracey’s boss came over and thanked her for her hard work. What a beautiful day in paradise. I would encourage everyone to support such a hard working organisation that helps our children. It does take a village to raise a child.

The Bermuda Government should be proud that they are going what they can to help raise money for foster children who are in the system. Anyone could have easily been dealt these same cards. The children did not ask to be in the system. It was nice to see a member of Child and Family Services, Selina their supporting the Association. It looks like they work hand and hand together. Next time Selina pick my name for the raffle bike! All jokes aside good job. Congratulations to the Foster Parents Association! I wear my wrist band proud the children are our future. Sincerely yours in golf,

SANDY SMITH
