Dear Sir,

I have been accused of fitting 15 minute jobs into 10 minute slots. I can’t think of a better way to help others.

At 84 years and given a clean bill of health, 10 days later finding myself unfamiliarly at KEMH. It was now time to be more observant than doing. This is my tribute to everyone I came in contact with during that time.

Wherever you came from, whatever your ethnic group, I don’t like to say race as I think of us all as human beings. If you came from St George’s, Pembroke, Somerset, Philippines, Africa or all over the world, you got out of your bed to attend to the needs of patients at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

From doctors, nurses, aids, cleaners, security who came to see if I needed anything forgotten from home. Newspapers, combs, etc, a big thank you!

I saw you as one big family working well together. There will always be those who go the extra mile, you know who you are, I don’t need to name you but I cannot forget you, your smiles and your helpful hints, to ease ones discomfort.

Because I don’t have home addresses, may I include out of hospital persons also; police, rescue personnels, for your flowers, cards, prayers and phone calls.

I lost my car but I did not lose my faith in my fellow men and my God, who I trust will show me another way to help others, without wheels.

When you are of a family of nine children, it is good training to use the golden rule “To do unto others.”
