BHB gets creative with exhibition at BSoA

Just as construction for the new acute care wing of the hospital building is coming to a close, Bermuda Hospitals Board has decided to embark on a new project that’s more on the creative side.

BHB has mounted an exhibit highlighting the design and construction aspects of the new facility, opening tonight at The Bermuda Society of Arts.

The exhibition showcases the new wing from the original design drawings, through to the construction phase, to the newly completed building, which will open to the public in September.

Photos, videos and examples of some of the building materials used will all be included in the show.

There will also be a host of lunchtime lectures on offer, starting next week with a discussion on how the design came to become a merger of artistic inspiration with the practical clinical needs. That mini lecture will happen on Tuesday from 12.15pm until 12.45pm.

Another lecture on the energy saving aspects of the new building will take place on Thursday (July 3) at 1.15pm.

Then on Tuesday, July 8th they will be talking about the sophistication of the building design, including the redundancies and allowances for expansion, happening at 12.15pm.

The final mini lecture will be taking place on Thursday, July 10th, with a topic of the Sewage Treatment Plant and how this particular plant was chosen, its capabilities, its construction and explanation on how it works.

You can also enter a draw to win a chance to see inside the new building before the rest of the general public. Just complete the questionnaire at the exhibit to become eligible.

Both the exhibit and the lectures are free to the public. The show opens tonight at 5.15pm and will run until July 15.

BSOA is open from 10am to 4pm on weekdays and from 10am — 2pm on Saturdays.
