Exempt company takes over sponsorship of Sesame Street broadcast

AXIS Capital will this year be helping local children get to Sesame Street by sponsoring the programme on Bermuda television.

The Bermuda-based re/insurer has, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Economic Development, will be taking over primary sponsorship for airing the educational programme on ZBM/ZFB from the Government for the 2014/15 fiscal year.

AXIS CEO Albert Benchimol said: “Sesame Street has enhanced the early childhood development of children worldwide for decades through its innovative and creative programming.

AXIS is honoured to support Bermuda’s youth and education as a primary sponsor for the continued broadcast of this iconic programme.”

Education Minister Grant Gibbons said he was grateful on behalf of the community for the sponsorship of what he described as an invaluable educational resource for Bermudian preschoolers and young children.

“Sesame Street is internationally recognised as one of the world’s most highly regarded educational television series for young children,” he said. “The benefits of Sesame Street transcend generations, as parents and grandparents who grew up watching, can now share the Sesame Street experience with their children and grandchildren.”
