Clamping should be allowed

Yes, do it: The Corporation of Hamilton should be allowed to clamp cars that violate parking rules, a letter writer believes

June 25, 2014

Dear Sir,

Has anyone ever heard of a show called Parking Wars? It’s a show where cars/trucks get either towed for parking in a tow-away zone, or ticketed for parking in parking bays either too long, or on the sidewalk or in no-parking areas.

The point I’m making is, the Corporation of Hamilton ought to be allowed to clamp cars disobeying such laws.

If the sign says you’re allowed to park for no more than two hours, and the owner of the car is there for three, that car deserves to be clamped.

The fine overseas is only $136 though ($150 is a rip-off price just to get a clamp removed, but people would think twice about doing the same again).

Also, it’s a $68 fine in the US for parking on the sidewalk. Plus, a car is allowed to be towed if parked in a parking bay away from the store you want to go to (sort of like parking at Supermart’s parking bay but going to Rosa’s Cantina nearby despite not being a two-hour parking bay). Such a vehicle would still get towed if it were in the States.
