Hall inspires Western Stars

Western Stars scored a thrilling one-wicket victory over Flatts in a low scoring match at St John’s Field with middle order batsman Brian Hall playing a key role, scoring 29 not out from 25 balls.

Flatts could only manage 83 in 20.5 overs as Seth Campbell, Jason Lowe and Naquan Smith claimed three wickets each for 31, 17 and 24 runs respectively. Regino Smith scored 30 from 32 balls for Flatts.

Stars replied with 84-9 in a nervy finish as Hall, batting at No 5, lost five partners in the space of 12 runs after he and opener Wayne Campbell (36) put on 49 for the fourth wicket after being in early trouble at 19-3. He and Campbell were the only two batsman in double figures as Nelson Bascome took five for 23 from eight overs for Flatts and Dorniell Ferrell four for 16 from 3.1 overs.

Ten-men Stars beat the Bermuda Under 17s by 57 runs on Saturday at St John’s, scoring 167 and then dismissing the Under 17s for 111 in 28.4 overs. Wayne Campbell was high man for Stars with 40 while captain Temiko Wilson scored 31. Christion Gibbons claimed two for 27 and Jahkari Hollis two for nine.

The Bermuda youngsters struggled for runs with only captain Alex Dore and No 3 bat Nzari Paynter reaching double figures.

They shared in a seventh wicket stand of 67 in taking the score from seven to 74 before a middle order slump put Stars back in control.

Naquan Smith claimed four for 20, Brian Hall three for 31 and Jason Lowe two for 15.
