The Bermuda Department of Corrections officially launched Corrections Week with a Proclamation Ceremony at City Hall.

Deputy Mayor Donal Smith and Commissioner of Corrections Lieutenant Colonel Edward Lamb both spoke on the need for Bermuda to celebrate the work of the Department.

“From social workers, to psychologists, to doctors and service providers, these men and women are responsible for rehabilitating those who have lost their way or lapsed in judgment,” said Mr Smith.

“It is their good work that instils a hopeful future in those who are afforded a second chance.”

Mr Lamb said: “Today is the official start of our first ever Corrections Week where we shall celebrate and recognise all that we do for the betterment and benefit of Bermuda.

“It is right that we should take time to proclaim we as a Corrections family do indeed shine our lights, that we do serve with honour and pride, that we do indeed give of ourselves for the good of this home we call Bermuda.”

Corrections Week runs until July 5.
