Bar owner ‘disgusted’ as power failure hits again

Hamilton establishments were hit by another power cut last night, leaving Casey’s Lounge customers in the dark at the height of World Cup fever.

“Disgusted” bar owner Gladwin Phillips said the lights went out for about two hours, starting at 5.15pm, for businesses all along Queen Street.

“I’m not a big business — I’m a small business, trying to stay in business,” Mr Phillips told The Royal Gazette. “If it happens once, it shouldn’t happen again. My concern now is what will we do tomorrow if we’re watching the World Cup and it happens again? Belco need to get it together.”

Last Thursday’s outage forced the nightspot to close business for the evening — but Mr Phillips said he’d kept his staff on as the last night of the month, combined with a crowd-drawing sports event, promised to bring a good night’s business.

As of 9.30pm, the establishment was “absolutely empty”. There was no detail by press time last night as to the cause or extent of the outage.
