Cory DeSilva recorded an upset in the Championship Flight Division at the HSBC Junior National Championship at Belmont Hills yesterday when he defeated the defending champion Walker Campbell by 1 hole.

Despite the bright skies there was gloom over Campbell at the end of the match as DeSilva kept his composure to record an impressive victory over last year’s winner.

DeSilva was two-up after the 9th hole with three birdies on the front nine, but Campbell battled back with birdies of his own on the back nine to bring the match down to the last hole when he needed a win to force a play-off.

However, the two players halved that final hole as DeSilva advanced to the 36-hole final today when he will meet Mikus Ming, who defeated Alex Mason 3 and 2 in the other semi-final. The Open Flight Division will also conclude today with the final between Kenny Leseur and Tyler Emery.

The two consolation finals are also set for today as the tournament comes to a close. Sam Wehmeyer defeated Kheary Swan in one semi-final and Joe Waters got by Dakota Lamb in the other.

The Open Flight Division consolation final will be an all-Watson contest after brothers Joe and Luke won their semi-final matches yesterday. Joe beat John Ewles 3 and 2 while Luke beat Ethan Sousa 7 and 5.

The first 18 holes of the Championship final will start at 7.58 with the second 18 scheduled to begin at noon. The final 18 holes in the Open final will start at 11.50.
