Fashion trendsetters will be flooding to the City of Hamilton tomorrow night as the Evolution Fashion Show 2014 gets underway.

A 100-foot runway will be installed and hundreds of models will strut their stuff wearing the season’s hottest hair, make-up and clothing trends for summer.

In anticipation of the biggest fashion event to hit the Bermuda calendar, Lifestyle took to the city streets for our weekly ‘Fashion On The Street’ column armed with a relevant question: ‘How would you like to see your fashion sense ‘evolve’?’

According to Madeleine Collins, 22, she’s looking forward to trying more styles that are ‘outside the box’.

“I’m drawn to classic pieces, but it would be interesting to engage in trends and approach them in the sense of moulding them to my own style,” she said.

“Everyone says ‘Don’t just follow trends’ but it would be nice to play around with them and see how I can make them my own.”

Ms Collins described her everyday style as being a mix of classic and contemporary. She typically looks for staples like a white Oxford shirt or classic prints, but tends to mix them up with something a little more unexpected, like studded sandals.

This element of pairing timeless pieces with edgy accessories makes an outfit more interesting, she said.

The fashionista said she gets inspiration from sites like Net-a-Porter.com, which releases a luxury designer fashion magazine for her to browse through each month.

Tufts University student Kyla Bolden, 18, said if she could do anything to ‘evolve’ her style it would be: incorporate more prints and patterns into her look.

“Even though I like pastels and neutrals like blacks and whites, I want to add more bold prints,” she said. “In the upcoming designs for next season I’ve seen that’s a huge style so it would be nice to include more of that.”

The teenager described her style as simple, yet stylish, and admitted she usually gravitates toward nude colours for her professional and off-duty looks.

However, when it’s time to get fashion inspiration she looks to someone who’s anything but plain.

Miss Bolden admitted she was inspired a lot by Nicole Richie’s boho chic style. “I love the way she dresses and love her new clothing line,” she said. “Just the fact that she is able to make something so simple look so elegant and sexy, even though she isn’t showing a lot of skin, is really admirable to me.

“She also tends to wear pastels, whites and blacks, which is something I’m very into.”

For lawyer Emily Deane, 33, if asked to pick one way she’d like to see her style progress, her answer would be to become a little more bold.

“I tend to stick to the same things, so perhaps I’d like to branch out into more prints and things like that,” she said.

“I usually go with very straight lines so I would also like to be a bit more adventurous with the silhouettes that I wear.”

Ms Deane admitted she likes plain prints and fabrics, but she might add a pop of colour to make an outfit standout.

She typically gets inspired when she is looking through magazines and by seeing what her friends have on.

“I like going shopping with friends as well because they help you to pull things off the rack and make suggestions for what might look good on you,” she added.

Stephanie Hall agrees that it’s a good idea to stock your closet with neutral pieces and add in a pops of colour for excitement.

“I like basics, but I also like to mix it in with something vibrant,” she said. “I also think that accessories are a must because it adds to the outfit.”

Ms Hall said she tended to get a lot of fashion inspiration from magazines like In Style and Vogue. However she couldn’t think of a way she would like to see her style develop in the near future.

“To be honest I don’t follow trends. I just wear things that I see that I like and that’s it,” she said.

The Evolution Fashion Show takes place tomorrow at the City Hall Car Park at 8pm. Admission is free.
