Man denies threatening to kill his mother

A Hamilton Parish man has denied stealing from and threatening to kill his mother.

Darren Anglin, 28, of Radnor Estate Road, was charged with stealing two silver earrings and a watch from his mother Paulette Anglin, valued at $150.

Mr Anglin was also charged with behaving in a threatening manner, allegedly banging on his mother’s door and threatening to kill her.

In Magistrates’ Court Mr Anglin, who was representing himself, attempted to plead guilty to the lesser offence of behaving in a threatening manner, but denied using threatening words. Prosecutor Garrett Byrne said the Crown was not satisfied with the plea, and so a not guilty plea was entered on both counts.

Mr Anglin was released on $2,000 bail with one surety by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner, who ordered Mr Anglin to stay away from his mother’s residence and workplace.

He will be tried on August 8.
