Relay race raised $10,750 for charity

Swift fundraising: The You Go Girl! Relay committee

Hundreds of women who competed in the You Go Girl! Relay event helped to raise $10,750 for the Women’s Resource Centre.

The six-kilometre road race around Dockyard was contested by teams of three, last month.

Race organiser Christine De Silva said: “We had tremendous raffle prizes donated by various stores and restaurants. Our all-male marshals, who joined into the spirit by dressing up, did a great job, as did the wonderful volunteers from the Women’s Resource Centre.

“It was a MAAC-sponsored race and we thank them for their continued support for this event which is in its third year.”

She added: “We should mention that the girls from the Sportseller, in the Washington Mall, were the winners of the team that raised the most money. Great job Sharon, Laura and Danielle.”

Mrs De Silva thanked her race committee of Natalie Dyrli, Gail Miller, Terri Durrant, and Beverley Adams, as well as sponsors OIL Insurance, and U by Kotex. She also thanked Barritt’s, Butterfield and Vallis, St John Ambulance Brigade, and the West End Development Company for their assistance.
