Murder suspect to be extradited

A man accused of murdering two people in a grocery store has been detained in the US and is due to be extradited to Bermuda in the coming weeks.

Le-veek Roberts, 20, is one of three men accused of shooting dead Haile Outerbridge, 34, and Rico Furbert, 25, in Belvin’s Variety in Pembroke in January last year.

His impending extradition was announced during an appearance in the Supreme Court on Friday by one of his co-accused, Christoph Duerr, 26.

Prosecutor Susan Mulligan told Judge Carlisle Greaves that an extradition order for Mr Roberts had been granted and that it cited two counts of premeditated murder, three counts of using a firearm, one count of attempted murder, one count of the unlawful discharge of a firearm, and two counts of taking motorcycles without authority.

Ms Mulligan said Mr Roberts could still appeal against his extradition and that the Crown was seeking sufficient time to get him back so he could be tried alongside Mr Duerr.

A third suspect, Gariko Benjamin, 22, has yet to be detained. All three accused are from Sandys.

Mr Duerr appeared for mention before Judge Greaves while the Crown applied to amend the indictment against him.

He will stand trial charged with two counts of premeditated murder, two counts of using a firearm, two counts of possessing a firearm and one count of possessing ammunition. A trial date has yet to be finalised for Mr Duerr, who is being represented by Larry Mussenden.
