Psychiatric report ordered for man who admits attack

A “insane” man has been remanded into custody for assault.

Magistrates’ Court heard that Jahmel Eugene Mallory, 29, assaulted a man last Saturday in St George’s, according to prosecutor Carrington Mahoney.

When asked if he wished to have the case tried in Supreme Court or Magistrates’ Court, Mr Mallory said: “I don’t understand the question”.

As such he was unable to make a plea. Mr Mallory was said to be ‘insane’ by his defence attorney Saul Dismont.

Mr Mallory had been treated at the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute since a prior assault in 2003.

He was released from the institute in December, 2013.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner remanded the defendant into custody for trial on August 5 and ordered a drug report and a psychiatric evaluation.
