A pair of brazen thieves were able to snatch a handbag from the basket of a livery cycle driven along South Shore by an unsuspecting tourist.

But while the duo managed to escape from the scene, their crime was caught on video by one of the victims.

This afternoon a police spokesman confirmed that the Bermuda Police Service was in possession of the “disturbing” footage,

The spokesman said that three rental cycles ridden by tourists were travelling east on South Road in Warwick, near Astwood Park, just before 3pm yesterday when the two thieves sped past them on a motorcycle, snatching the handbag as they passed, heading east on South Road.

The act was captured by one of the tourists who was wearing a go-pro camera at the time.

“The image of these two unscrupulous individuals stealing in this manner is disturbing and police have commenced an investigation into this incident,” the spokesman said.

“We are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the individuals on the cycle and anyone with any information is asked to contact CUI on 295 0011.

“We are also advising the public and tourists alike to ensure that at all times valuables are kept out of sight or secured on the cycle when travelling to remove the opportunity and lessen your chance of becoming a victim.”
