Bascome leads bowling in defeat

Captain: Delray Rawlins

ICC Americas, including four Bermudians and captained by Delray Rawlins, crashed to their third straight defeat in the West Indies Under-19 Tournament in Guyana yesterday, losing by seven wickets to champions Jamaica in a rain-shortened match at Everest Cricket Ground.

Sent in by Jamaica in a match that was reduced to 24 overs per team, ICC Americas team scored 123 in 23.4 overs and Jamaica replied with 126 for three after 22 overs with Onias Bascome leading the bowling with two for 34 from four overs.

He had a hand in all three wickets, catching opener Leroy Lugg in the covers for 22 before bowling the other opener, Odaine McCatty, for 39.

Rawlins went for 31 runs in his five overs as Mark Parchment led the Jamaicans to their target with 49 not out with an over to spare.

ICC Americas struggled for runs throughout after losing Alex Dore’s opening partner, Vibhav Altekar, in the second over with just four runs on the board. Dore departed at 35 for three in the eleventh over, trapped leg-before for 13 as Onias Bascome, earning a promotion up the batting order after his half-century on Tuesday, replaced him.

Bascome was run out for 12 after failing to beat a throw by the bowler to the striker’s end when going for a single. That made it 56 for five, before captain Rawlins came to the crease at 61 for six.

He and Armaan Kampoor, who made 33, put on 31 for the seventh wicket before Rawlins skied a catch to long-on to make it 92 for seven after 19.4 overs. Rawlins contributed 14.

Micah Simons batted at No?11 and was one not out. Ramaal Lewis, the Jamaica captain, led the bowling with four for 18 off 4.4 overs.

Hosts Guyana beat Trinidad & Tobago by five wickets at Bourda Oval in another match reduced because of rain.

Trinidad scored 163 for nine off their 32 overs as Camillo Carimbocas scored 66. Keemo Paul scored 74 and Tagenarine Chanderpaul 41 as Guyana reached 164 for five in 28.2 overs.

The match between the Windwards and Leewards was abandoned because of a wet outfield.
