ICC Americas remain winless

Alex Dore is bowled for six

The ICC Americas team, containing four Bermudians, continue to find the going tough in the Regional Under-19 One-Day Tournament in Guyana, losing Saturday’s match to the Windward Islands and then having their match with Barbados yesterday abandoned because of rain as they remain winless after five matches.

Yesterday, rain ended the match after just 26.3 overs of the Americas innings with the total 55 for four. Alex Dore, batting at No 4, was bowled for six and Onias Bascome and Delray Rawlins were the next two batsmen in the batting order when the match stopped and never resumed. Both teams were awarded two points.

Windward Islands beat Trinidad and Tobago by two wickets yesterday.

Trinidad and Tobago scored 149 for nine in their 50 overs as Gidron Pope claimed four for 23 off ten overs for the Windwards, who then reached their target with just two wickets in hand.

Deron Hypolite, who scored 13, and Sherman Lewis, who hit 26, shared in a vital unbroken ninth-wicket stand of 40 which carried the score from 110 to 150. The hosts Guyana beat Jamaica, the defending champions, by 68 runs on the Duckworth/Lewis system after that match was also affected by rain.

Guyana posted 184 in 40 overs with opener Shimron Hetmyer scoring 75 and captain Brian Sattaur 41.

The pair put on 89 for the second wicket after Tagenarine Chanderpaul departed with just eight runs on the board.
