Is your journey really so important?

17 August, 2014

Dear Sir,

To the person who felt the urge to overtake a stopped car at the crosswalk, to risk harm for the sake of five seconds, to disrespect the privilege of driving: why?

I feel no anger nor frustration that you forced me to remember that life is fragile, fleeting, as you beamed toward me in your swanky, black Hyundai. I feel only sadness and concern.

Not only for you, but for our beautiful Island and her people.

We are losing touch with reality as we play out our self-indulgent lives, rushing no where important, for nothing important, to feel important.

On the wake of the tragic events that occurred over Cup Match weekend, one can hope that there is still a mindfulness to drive more safely, but lest we forget, this letter is a reminder.

Drivers/riders: slow down, be present, and remember that the road is shared and must be treated with respect.

Pedestrians: slow down, look up, be sure that all traffic has stopped before you cross the road and be wary of overtaking vehicles.
