Man accused of sex with schoolgirl refused bail

A 20-year-old man accused of having sex with a schoolgirl has been remanded in custody.

The Pembroke resident is charged with unlawful carnal knowledge of a 14-year-old girl on August 9 and luring the child using Whatsapp with the purpose of committing the offence.

Appearing before Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner in Magistrates’ Court this morning, he did not have to submit a plea as the charges are indictable and the case must be heard in the Supreme Court.

Senior Magistrate Warner refused bail and remanded the accused into custody.

He will appear before the court again for mention on September 4.
