Seven of Bermuda’s top amateur female golfers will compete in the Northeastern District Semi-Final Championship in Canterbury, New Hampshire, tomorrow.

Betty Ann Sudbury and Elizabeth Carpio qualified for the Championship Flight, Joanne Bielby for First Flight, and Cindy Kinjo-Hardart, Tracy Nash, Gursharn Harvey and Kathy Young will compete in the Team Scramble Competition.

The top finishers in each district semi-final will qualify for the annual Executive Women’s Golf Association Championship, the largest amateur female tournament in the world.

Gina Bassett-Cook, the president of the Bermuda Chapter of the EWGA, said that the tournament would be a great opportunity for the golfers going to compete internationally.

“They’re not pros, it’s an amateur tournament, but being able to compete with that many women and network with that many women [it is an association of 15,000 women in the world] is a great networking opportunity as well as an amazing golfing opportunity.”

The initial EWGA Championship was held in 1995, and has since become the largest golf tournament of its kind with more than 2,400 members participating.

The Bermudian golfers are making the trip after qualifying performances in the EWGA Bermuda Chapter Championship at Riddell’s Bay Country Club in June, winning their respective divisions.

Sudbury finished with the low gross score in the Championship Flight, while Carpio had the low net score.

This is the second year Bermuda has been involved with EWGA and held a Chapter Championship.

Winners from the Northeastern Championship in each category will advance to the Finals, held in Nashville, Tennessee, in October.
