A badly damaged car was found unoccupied and crashed into a utility pole at about 2.20am today, when police responded to a reported collision near Jews Bay in Southampton.

The car had “extensive front end damage” and had to be towed from the scene on Middle Road, police said.

The matter is under investigation, and witnesses are asked to contact Pc Ainsworth Grant at the Somerset Police Station on 234-1010.

It came after a weekend in which three people were arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.

Police also made one arrest for an outstanding warrant.
