A Bermuda private school has notched up its best results ever in English school exams.

Pupils at the Bermuda High School for Girls recorded a 100 per cent pass rate in the 2013/14 round of the exams — formerly known as O Levels.

A total of 21 per cent of the results were at A* grade — three times the English and Welsh pass rate of 6.7 per cent.

And — cumulatively — 54 per cent of the results were at A* or A grades, compared to the English and Welsh statistic of 21.3 per cent.

Head teacher Linda Parker said: “I am elated with these outstanding results.

“I am particularly proud of the high percentage of A* and A grades, the best we have seen in BHS’s history.”

And she said the high standard — as the school prepares to celebrate 120 years in education — were “a lovely birthday gift”.

Ms Parker added: “Our Year 11 students have proven their ability to surpass expectations as predicted by the baseline data.

“This is not only the result of the students’ self-discipline, hard work and focus, but also the teachers taking a caring and personalised approach to their students, challenging them to reach beyond their potential.

“These results confirm that the BHS educational experience adds significant value to our students’ achievement.”

BHS girl Sophia Marshall notched up eight A* passes and one A, while Margaret Dunne was awarded eight A* and Carolyn Soares got six A* and two As.

Classmate Lara Nash was awarded five A* and two As, while Skye Robinson-Bean and Leah Wright each got four A* and four As each.

And Caroline Caton and Kiera Fields recorded three A* and six As apiece.
