Always have a contingency plan

Rain. For the last several weeks we have experienced a lot of rain in Bermuda. Although this is unusual it is interesting to observe what happens where there is a change to what we all expect to be the “normal” routine.

Tanks get filled, grass grows longer and thicker, and we see a lot more umbrellas. There is some grumbling as vacation plans, weekend outings, and other events get interrupted. This is really life unfolding as it should — we want to plan and control things and events but is really all about how we react and respond to things as they actually unfold!

So people get to complete the inside tasks that they have been putting off, spend more time reading or learning and, hopefully, spend more time with their family and friends.

It got me to thinking that a great strategy to use from time to time is one where you have your list of the things to do when you cannot do the things you felt were the most important. There is a word for this — a contingency plan! So what is yours?

“It is a wise person that adapts themselves to all contingencies; it’s the fool who always struggles like a swimmer against the current.” — Unknown
