Students at Warwick Academy have achieved high grades in their IGCSE qualifications.

The school has reported a 99.7 percent pass rate in the exams, with principal Maggie McCorkell noting that there were some “exceptional individual successes”, including one student receiving nine A* grades.

Last year, the private school achieved a 100 percent past rate for IGCSEs. Mrs McCorkell said 65 students from year 11 sat the exams this year and one student failed one subject, hence the 99.7 percent pass rate.

“These results follow on from the 100 percent pass rate in the International Baccalaureate exams published in July,” she added.

Claire Conyers achieved the nine A* grades, while other high-achieving students included: Alexander Miranthis with 11 passes (seven A*, three A, one B);

Chanah Bremar, nine passes (three A*, three A, one B, two 2 C); Hannah Fields, nine passes (one A*, four A, four B); Tholath Joseph, nine passes (one at A*, six A, one B, one C); and Shayla Smith, nine passes, seven A, one B, one C).

Bermuda High School for Girls reported a 100 per cent pass rate in its latest GCSE exams, which used to be called O Levels.

The pass rates for both Warwick and BHS refer to A* to G passes. At BHS, 97 per cent of students who sat the exams received five A* to C grades, including maths and English.

Mrs McCorkell said Warwick was not reporting on the number of A* to C grades “just yet as we are waiting for some remarks which will take a few weeks to come back from overseas. Of course, we will be happy to share those at a later date when we have verified numbers.”

In the UK, a pass of between A* and C is required for many jobs and further education courses.

British media reported last week that the number of pupils getting A* to C grades rose this year by nearly one per cent to 68 per cent.
