Short-sighted fee increase
August 25, 2014
Dear Sir,
If the Corporation of Hamilton hadn’t noticed, we are going through a time of recession, and increasing the cost of car parking by 100 per cent is not very constructive at a time when people are hurting for money.
The move is counterproductive to Bermuda’s economy. Because it is such a basic requirement, it will cause shops in Hamilton to do less business, and prices of everything will rise, causing inflation. Which we don’t want.
I would like to ask the person responsible for cooking up this idea whether they personally take advantage of the ten per cent off on Wednesdays offered by kind supermarkets in Bermuda?
I suspect the answer is yes. And to do that at a time when some people are already down on their knees, out of a job, or with ailing pockets is unconscionable.
