A 47-year-old man is being held by police as authorities investigate the sudden death of a 48-year-old Southampton woman, found in an unresponsive state a residence in the Atlantic View housing complex.

According to police, the man is also from Southampton and is “assisting with relevant inquiries”. An autopsy will be carried out by a forensic pathologist.

Foul play in the woman’s death has not been ruled out, a police spokesman said.

Officers were called to the home at about 12.10am.

“On arrival EMTs [emergency medical technicians] performed CPR on the 48-year-old Southampton woman at the scene and rushed her to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance, where she was later pronounced dead by an on-call doctor,” the spokesman said.
