Date set for drugs trial

A group of eight people charged with conspiring to supply more than 100 kilograms of cannabis have been given a trial date.

John Jefferis, brothers Corte and Iman Gibbons, Damon Edwards, Shannon Trott, Darrin Virgil, Dina Tucker and Brian Anderson have all denied charges of conspiring with others not before the court between an unknown date and November 13, 2012, to import the controlled drug.

Mr Jefferis, both Gibbons brothers and Mr Edwards further denied a second count of conspiring to import the drug.

And the Gibbons brothers, Mr Edwards and Mr Trott have denied allowing a property on Limehouse Lane in Hamilton Parish to be used for illegal activity.

The charges reportedly involve 120kg of cannabis, valued at around $5.9 million.

All eight, who are released on bail, are set to return to the Supreme Court for trial in mid-November.
