The Fairmont Southampton has revamped 230 rooms as part of a hotel renovation scheme expected to cost more than $11.5 million.

And the hotel is set to refurbish a further 172 rooms over the winter — as well as hotel corridors.

Fairmont Bermuda managing director George Terpilowski said: “The renovation in the guest rooms and the suites helps to maintain the Fairmont Southampton’s prominent position in Bermuda’s luxury market.”

The renovations include furniture, fixtures and equipment and the design scheme features colours inspired by Bermuda’s lush landscape, featuring splashes of orange, lime and turquoise.

The hotel said it aimed to provide light, bright and contemporary accommodation, while still “true to the spirit of Bermuda.”

Mr Terpilowski said: “The new decor reflects the preferences of today’s travellers while maintaining the charm of the resort.

“This renovation is a demonstration of Fairmont Hotels and Resorts’ commitment to Bermuda and the future success of its tourism product.”

The guest rooms also feature large desks with ergonomic chairs, WIFI — which now covers the entire property, including the beach — and technology connections for the flat screen TVs.

Rooms also feature large bathrooms and walk-in closets with built-in dressers.

The redesign was masterminded by Massachusetts-based architects and interior designers Parker Torres, which also managed the redesign of the landmark Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel in Boston’s Copley Square.

The general contractor on the project is Bermuda’s ECM Services, with Oceans Interiors, Treecon, Reeves Electric, AnPro, Aptech, Final Cutt and Lisa’s Eco Painting also all working on the revamp.

The hotel this year won a TripAdvisor certificate of excellence, along with its Waterlot Inn and Turtle Hill Golf Club, awarded only to the top ten percent of businesses listed on the travel website.

The Waterlot has also been honoured with an AAA four diamond award and a Wine Spectator Award.
