A 47-year-old man arrested following the death of a woman in Southampton has been released on bail.

The man was detained by officers yesterday after the 48-year-old Southampton woman was found in an unresponsive state at a home in the Atlantic View housing complex.

He was released from custody today while police continue their inquiries into the death.

A police spokesman said: “The investigation into the sudden death of a 48 year old Southampton woman during the early morning hours of Wednesday, August 27th is ongoing.

“The 47-year-old Southampton man subsequently taken into police custody has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.”

Previously police had stated that foul play had not been ruled out.

Officers were called to the scene at 12:10am on Wednesday.

Emergency medical technicians performed CPR on the woman at the scene and rushed her to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance, where she was later pronounced dead by an on-call doctor.
