Somers climbs 5.5%

A gain of more than five percent in the share price of financial services holding company Somers Ltd helped the Island’s stock market to edge higher today.

Somers, which owns Bermuda Commercial Bank Ltd, gained 75 cents, or 5.5 percent, to close on $14.50 on the trading of 800 shares.

The other domestic-board stock to trade was Butterfield Bank, which remained on $1.99 as 1,880 shares changed hands.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index climbed 4.48 points, or 0.32 percent, to close on 1,391.09. Volume of shares traded was 2,680 and turnover totalled $15,341.20.

The BSX Insurance Index gained 6.46 points, or 0.44 percent, to close on 1,483.67.
