Stars get few favours from the conditions

Getting out of the First Division is becoming an exercise in frustration for Western Stars.

Two years ago they were denied promotion when they lost to Cleveland in a play-off match at Sea Breeze Oval after finishing second.

On Sunday, Stars had hoped to move into the automatic promotion spot with victory over leaders Flatts at St David’s, but for the third straight weekend they have had a match abandoned because of rain.

Western Stars posted 219, with Rohan Davis leading their batting with 47, including seven fours and a six, while Seion Darrell scored 31, Temiko Wilson 30 and Brian Hall 29 before Stars were dismissed in 47 overs. Flatts had responded with 12 without loss in 2.5 overs when the heavens opened and brought an early end. Stars were also forced to settle for no-result points from matches against PHC and Somerset Bridge.

Now Stars must beat Bermuda Under-17 in their final game and hope Somerset Bridge can shock Flatts, who hold a five-point lead. Otherwise, finishing second will mean another play-off match for Stars against the sixth-placed team in the Premier Division.
