Aspen Re CEO Few resigns

Apen Re's new CEO Stephen Postlewhite

Aspen Insurance Holdings Ltd has named Stephen Postlewhite chief executive officer of Aspen Re, succeeding James Few, who resigned “to pursue other opportunities,” the company said in a statement.

The move has sparked other changes within senior management at the Bermuda insurer and reinsurer.

Mr Postlewhite has been with Aspen since 2003 and most recently served as Aspen Group’s chief risk officer. He has also served as deputy chief actuary and head of risk capital at the company. Before Aspen, Postlewhite worked for UK regulator the Financial Services Authority and for audit and professional services firm KPMG in London and Sydney.

Aspen Group CEO Chris O’Kane said Mr Postlewhite is one of the company’s “brightest and most able leaders”. O’Kane said Postlewhite will lead Aspen Re at a time of continuous change in the reinsurance market.

“Steve is the architect of Aspen’s capital modelling capability and played an integral role in building the strong risk management framework which underpins our business today,” Mr O’Kane said in the statement.

Mr Few had led Aspen Re since 2012 when he was promoted after serving as president of Aspen Re and CEO of Aspen Bermuda.

Taking over as for Postlewhite as chief risk officer will be Richard Thornton, who is currently Aspen’s head of strategy and will carry both titles. Mike Cain, Aspen Group general counsel, has been appointed CEO of Aspen Bermuda Ltd, a move that is subject to board and regulatory approvals.

Emil Issavi, who currently is chief underwriting officer for Aspen’s reinsurance business, has been named president of Aspen Re and will serve in both roles.
