Film series looks at Bermuda’s history

Keen to discover more about Bermuda’s history?

A collection of movies focusing on the Island’s rich heritage are being shown as part of Bermuda National Library’s Summer Film Series.

Bermuda’s master carvers and carpenters talk about their traditional styles in Woodworking — featuring artists Milton Hill Sr and Chesley Trott — which is being screened on Wednesday.

On September 17, Building will look at the Island’s unique architecture and will include interviews with masons George Leon Burt and Dennis Butterfield, and carpenter George Phipps.

The final film is In The Hour Of Victory, about Bermudian Major Toby Smith, who lost his life at the Battle of Overloon during the final Allied push for victory in the Second World War.

The movie, being shown on September 24, is a first-hand account of the wartime era and its lasting impact on a family.

All the screenings are being shown from 11am to 1pm at the Bermuda History and Cultural Studies Room of Bermuda National Library.
