Hamilton aims to be writing US business by year-end

Ed Pulkstenis

One of Bermuda’s newest players on the reinsurance scene is to expand into the US by the end of the year.

Hamilton Insurance Group — run by industry veteran Brian Duperreault and set up only last year — announced the appointment of Eduard Pulkstenis as president of small business in Hamilton USA.

Mr Duperreault said: “Establishing a platform for insurance operations in the US has been one of the key components of Hamilton Insurance Group’s business plan.

“We’re pleased with the experienced team that CEO Conan Ward is putting together and anticipate Hamilton US will be writing business by the end of this year.”

Mr Pulkstenis said: “Hamilton is using technology and analytics to approach the commercial marketplace in new and creative ways.

“I’m excited to be part of this innovative team and I look forward to working with our distributors and other business partners to meet the needs of small commercial customers more efficiently and more profitably.”

Mr Ward added: “Ed’s commitment to advancing the use of analytics to build outperforming businesses is outstanding and he’ll be a huge asset to our organisation.

“As we build an organisation that uses tomorrow’s technology and analytic techniques, leaders like Ed are critical to our success.”

Mr Pulkstenis — who has spent 25 years’ experience in commercial lines business — joined Hamilton from the firm he co-founded, Harbor Point Consulting Partners, which provided advice on business strategy and intelligence to small businesses, insurance distributors, carriers and other players in the insurance market.

He has a BA in Mathematics and a graduate of Harvard Business School’s advanced management programme, as well as a member of the American Academy of Actuaries and a Fellow of the Casualty Actuary Society.
