An Island sports club aims set to put up two cabanas on its beachfront — with one to be used a summer clubhouse and the other for short-term rentals to raise income.

The move is part of ambitious plans by Watford Sports Club in Sandys to revamp the beach area next to the club.

The club’s website said that clean-up work to remove rocks and debris from the eastern end of the beach area had already taken place.

The statement added: “The reinstatement of the old walkway, which was destroyed in Hurricane Fabian will hopefully have the added bonus of helping to retain the sand on the beach.”

The club — also known as the Blue Club — has also built temporary stairs at the east end of the beach and fencing has been installed to secure the eastern edge of the property.

The statement added that it was hoped to recycle two cabanas from the former 9 Beaches resort.

It said: “If successful we are hoping one will be used as beach clubhouse facility in the summer at the eastern end of the beach.

“The other will be put on the western end and will be available for short-term rentals to help generate additional income for the club.”

No one from the club was available for comment yesterday.
