Broaden your horizons at the International Schools Fair

An International Schools Fair will be held September 24 and 25.

The International Schools Fair Bermuda takes place September 24-25 at the Fairmont Southampton from 4pm until 7.30pm.

This will be the biggest boarding school fair ever held in Bermuda, providing the opportunity for families to talk with representatives from 80 schools in the USA, UK and Canada.

The schools attending meet a wide variety of needs, and range from traditional boarding schools, boarding schools that offer learning support and boarding schools for the younger child.

No registration is needed and entry is free. For more information, or for a full list of the schools attending, visit www.schoolstoknow.com or www.bvs-education.co.uk.

My hair looks mental most of the time anyway, but PALS are asking us to have crazy hair for a good cause on Friday, September 26 as part of their third PALS Mad Hair Day. PALS is a registered charity which provides professional hands-on care and support to cancer patients primarily in their own homes and they ask that you round up your friends, family and co-workers, donate $5, and wear your hair in a mad or crazy way for the day.

Think wigs, funny hats and scarves, crazy hair creations and big ribbons or headbands. To participate, contact Lynette or Carolyn at 236-7257 or pals@northrock.bm.

Dig out your lederhosen and round up your friends for Oktoberfest. Celebrations which run October 1 until October 4 in the Victualling Yard at the Royal Naval Dockyard from 6pm until late with happy hour from 5pm until 6pm.

At the real Oktoberfest in Munich, only beer brewed within the city limits can be served so, on this basis alone, Frog and Onion can claim to have Bermuda’s most authentic Oktoberfest since their beer is brewed mere yards away from where you are drinking it.

Headlining each evening is the award-winning Oompah Brass, playing a mixture of traditional tunes and Bavarian-style reworking of contemporary music.

Further entertainment will be courtesy of The Big Chill’s DJ Felix Todd and MC Tony Brannon. Cosponsors Dockyard Brewing Co, and Burrows & Lightbourn will offer special Oktoberfest brews and the tent will be set up in the classic style of long trestle tables where you can enjoy traditional Oktoberfest dishes provided by the Frog and Onion pub.

Steins of beer and glasses of wine will cost $7.25 each, with food priced at $25. Tickets range from $10 to $100 per head for reserved seating. All tables seat up to ten people and include table service. Tables are now available for pre-booking through www.pTix.bm. For more information: 234-2900 or frog@irg.bm.

Artist Diane Whittaker will host Walls and Brushes, a series of workshops on how to paint a wall mural from start to finish.

The workshop will take place at Cranleigh in the Washington Mall and will run from 6pm to 6.45pm on Mondays or Wednesdays from October 6. The fee is $250 for four weeks. For more information: dianew0123@yahoo.com.

This two workshop series will take place at the Yoga Centre on Victoria Street.
