DeSilva welcomes safety barrier

MP Zane DeSilva has welcomed the installation of a new and improved barrier at the spot where a child was killed.

In January ten-year-old Tiffanelle Pitcher-Francis died after she struck one of the horizontal bars of the previous barrier while cycling down Tribe Road Number 1 in Southampton.

Mr DeSilva said the move to replace the barrier was welcomed by all the local residents.

“Safety is always the primary concern and it is our hope that the tragedy that sparked the removal and replacement of the barrier will inform decisions going forward to better serve the safety and well being of all Bermudians,” he said.

“As the MP for the area, I am obviously very happy that it has been fixed, albeit that it took months for the Ministry of Public Works to correct.”

The replacement barrier has additional horizontal bars to prevent children from being able to cycle beneath the top bar.
