Man bailed after being charged with threatening behaviour

A west end man has been charged in Magistrates’ Court with threatening Wedco chairman and former One Bermuda Alliance candidate Ray Charlton.

Buford Smith, 51, denied using threatening words and threatening behaviour in an incident which occurred yesterday in Dockyard.

In court, Mr Smith called the complainant a “racist” before being silenced by Magistrate Juan Wolffe.

Mr Wolffe released Mr Smith on $1,000 bail on the condition that he avoid contact with Mr Charlton and any other prosecution witnesses.

The matter is expected to return before the courts later this month to be mentioned.
