Cruise boss praises Island

Norwegian Cruise Lines CEO Kevin Sheehan

Norwegian Cruise Lines boss, Kevin Sheehan, has given Bermuda the seal of approval as his firm looks to boost cruise calls to the Island next year.

Mr Sheehan also hinted that Norwegian’s newest and biggest ship, Breakaway, will continue to travel to Bermuda in 2016.

The welcome news comes as the third largest line in the world announced it would be increasing its calls to Bermuda from 44 this year to 48 next year.

This year the Breakaway and the Norwegian Dawn have been the firm’s regular callers to the Island, and this will continue in 2015.

“If I was a betting person I would expect to see the Breakaway back in Bermuda in 2016,” Mr Sheehan told The Royal Gazette.

And he restated his company’s commitment to the island as another successful cruise season for Norwegian in Bermuda begins to wind down.

“Bermuda is a destination that will always be an attractive market for our guests,” Mr Sheehan said.

“Last year, with the introduction of the Breakaway, was phenomenal.

“This year we have had a good season, which has confirmed that Bermuda is a very, very popular market to our customers. It gets us very strong bookings.

“The guest satisfaction has improved and people are enjoying their time there immensely.”

This year Mr Sheehan himself, together with family and friends, travelled to Bermuda on the Breakaway, and he said he was impressed with the Island’s public transport system.

“The transport and the ferries have improved,” he said. “I actually travelled to Bermuda on the Breakaway in July and we had a great time.

“We used public transport while we were on Island and it worked very well.

“I have been travelling to Bermuda since I used to come here in Spring Break and the experience has always been very positive.

“From the feedback we have received there are a lot of happy people coming through Bermuda from Boston and New York.”
