Tina Joyner Stovell is seen at the 60th Consecutive Reunion of the Joyner Family in Wilson, NC. She hopes her US family will come to Bermuda for the next reunion.

Well-known Bermuda resident Tina (Joyner) Stovell is back at home after actively participating in the 60th consecutive annual family reunion of descendants the family of the late Simon and Mary (Venus) Joyner.

It was held this year in Wilson, North Carolina.

Tina, who came to Bermuda 21 years ago, married is a mother and is an active member of Christ Church, Warwick.

She related how the Joyner family history is discussed each year; and how they take pride in their legacy, having started out as slaves, became farmers, preachers, pastors, doctors, chefs, entrepreneurs, property owners and proud members of the armed forces.

Each year they do a rotation to a different site, for their family reunion over the Labour Day weekend, with family travelling from as far away as San Diego, California, Detroit, Michigan New York and of course Bermuda.

This time around Tina spent her time and all-out energy seeking to have the next rotation to her adopted island home. She said the competition is keen for a rotation.

Tina had salutations from Governor George Fergusson and Premier Michael Dunkley that were included in an attractive souvenir Journal.
