Lose weight and win $2k

A gym is offering $2,000 to those who can lose the most weight as part of a fitness and nutrition challenge.

The Athletic Club wants teams of between four and six people to take part in its Thinner Winner contest, with the aim of helping participants shed a total of 1,000lbs.

Personal coaches will help to make fitness fun over the six-week challenge and assist entrants in losing between 10 and 12 pounds and up to 10 inches.

The team that sheds the highest percentage of weight and inches will take home the grand prize.

Special weekly workouts will include Zumba, circuit training and piloxing — a fusion of pilates, boxing and dance — as well as power walks with racewalking champion Sinclair Smith.

Entrants will also get access to the Athletic Club’s fitness centre, classes and spa during the programme.

Food guides will be available to take the guesswork out of eating.

“We are honoured to help shape up Bermuda,” said the Athletic Club’s owner Kym Herron Scott. “It’s a win-win situation. The challenge helps reduce healthcare costs, improves work productivity, and creates happier, healthier Bermudians.

“Last year, during our debut of this programme, participants shed 985lbs. Our Biggest Loser, Juliette Richardson, lost 23.5lb and the Inch Worm Award went to Verlicia Scott, losing a whopping 27 inches.”

The contest kicks off with at weigh-in at Hamilton’s Victoria Park at 2pm on October 4.

Thinner Winner entry costs $139 per person for the Athletic Club’s members, $279 for non-members and $1,000 for corporate teams.

Teams of between four and six must include two people who are not Athletic Club members. Residents can sign up individually and be added to a team.
