A solution to pension problems

Finance Minister Bob Richards

September 17, 2014

Dear Sir,

I just listened to Bob Richards telling senior citizens that money doesn’t grow on trees. Bobby, Bobby...have you not seen the dollar orchard at Alaska Hall? No, I’m kidding and I don’t want this to be political.

There’s a simple solution to this. If all these people want increases in pensions and they want Government to spend half a million dollars every year to keep the Centre for Abuse open then let ‘er lick...just take the money from somewhere else. If there’s only so much in the pot, seems to me the very logical solution is that we can’t provide all the services...so just cut some and add to others.

Why do we need post offices every half mile?

Why do we need a public transportation system that’s costly and inefficient? Privatise the whole thing.

Why do we need Policemen guarding Government House and doing all these non-Police things? Tell George to hire his own guards.

The Sage Commission already looked at all this.

If Seniors want more money and we have to have a Government sponsored Centre for Abuse, then go for it. Take the money from somewhere else...and if Bob Richards can’t make a decision, then ask the people to make it for him.

The OBA was elected because the other guys made a mess of it.

The OBA was elected because the Bermudian people felt they could do a better job...maybe even solve the problems and make the tough decisions. So...

JUST DO IT !

Sincerely
