Tuff Dogs go down fighting against Cuts

Kavon Fubler scored 21 for Willow Cuts

Willow Cuts secured top spot in Group B in the Lindo’s T20 Tournament when they beat Tuff Dogs and then had a forfeited win over Western Stars who informed the Bermuda Cricket Board they couldn’t field a team for yesterday’s second match.

Tuff Dogs, an Evening Cricket League team who already beat PHC, made Willow Cuts work hard for their victory after posting 129-7 in their 20 overs. Joseph Basden (26) and Kavon Fubler (21) shared in an unbroken eighth wicket stand of 35 to carry them to victory after Tuffs Dogs had them nervously placed at 95-7 after second-change Indika Perera picked up key wickets early in the innings.

Perera removed Ricardo Brangman for 14, Deunte Darrell for four and then bowled Sheroy Fubler for eight. Captain Malachi Jones scored 20 at the top of the Cuts batting order after opening with Shaquille Jones while Bergon Spencer added 17 at No 5 before youngsters Basden and Kavon Fubler rescued them with a valuable partnership for the eighth wicket as they won with 2.2 overs to spare.

Mike Corday led the Tuff Dogs batting with 42 not out after opening the innings. Terrence Corday added 23 not out as the two Cordays put on 37 for the eighth wicket. Kavon Fubler, sharing the new ball with Kamal Bashir, claimed four for 21 from his four overs to lead the Cuts bowling.

Willow Cuts will meet defending champions St David’s in the first semi-final on Saturday at Lord’s while Southampton Rangers will take on Bailey’s Bay in the second match.
