Hit-and-run driver arrested

A Warwick man was arrested for impaired driving this weekend after driving through the scene of an accident, hitting one of the vehicles involved and driving away.

According to police, emergency services responded to reports of a collision between a motorcycle and an auxiliary cycle near the entrance to Marley Beach Drive at around 1.30am on Saturday.

The collision had caused some non-life threatening injuries.

“A short time later a car was driven through the South Road scene, apparently colliding with one of the cycles involved in the original collision before leaving the area,” the spokesman added. “Police officers subsequently located the offending vehicle in the Ord Road, Witchery Lane, Warwick area where the car’s driver, a 26-year-old Warwick man, was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.”

The man is expected to appear in court in the near future.
