Huge car carrier stops off in Hamilton

The huge hulking form of the car ship, Hoegh Inchon, loomed into view off Hamilton yesterday as the carrier dropped off a batch of new vehicles at the docks.

After a tug-assisted pirouette in the harbour the vast vessel docked at Hamilton Docks at 11am.

A total of 68 brand new Japanese cars were driven alongside, and within hours the Hoegh Inchon was on her way again.

The car carriers that stop in Bermuda normally originate in Japan.

And the vessels tend to call into the Island every month or so as part of a series of calls in the Caribbean before heading back to Japan to restock.

For the Hoegh Inchon this is the first time the carrier has ever called on Bermuda.

And it was also the Singapore-flagged ship’s last stop before she heads home through the Panama Canal.

Meanwhile there’s plenty of cruise action this week in Bermuda.

The Explorer of the Seas arrived in Dockyard on Monday for a one-night stay.

She’ll be back again on Saturday, when she gets in and leaves on the same day.

Today the Norwegian Breakaway makes her 21st trip of the year.

While on Sunday the Grandeur of the Seas returns to Dockyard for a two-night stay.

Finally the usual duo of the Bermuda Islander and the Oleander are scheduled to arrive at their normal slots of tomorrow morning and Sunday afternoon respectively.
