Cross-country season opens at Chaplin Bay

Defending champion Marshall

The new cross country season begins tomorrow with the first of six races in the series at Chaplin Bay leading up to the National Championships on December 6.

The quality of the field for the race is unknown because some athletes are still recharging after competing overseas this summer.

Lamont Marshall retained his men’s national title with victory in the National Championships last December at St George’s Golf Course, while Ashley Estwanik took the women’s title.

Tyler Smith and Quasshie Douglas claimed the under-17 boys’ and girls’ titles.

Donna Watson, the Bermuda National Athletics Association president, said: “With this being our first event we are never sure how many athletes will be out to participate,” she said.

“Some of the athletes have had a very busy summer and are still recovering.”

The race starts at 8.30am.
