Charity golf tournament

Premier Michael Dunkley will be among the competitors at a golf tournament raising funds for charity this afternoon.

More than 100 golfers in 26 teams will be taking part in The Duke of Edinburgh International Award Bermuda’s Golf Challenge 2014 at Riddell’s Bay Golf and Country Club.

Keen golfer Mr Dunkley will lead a team made up of Cabinet colleagues Jeanne Atherden, Shawn Crockwell and Wayne Scott.

All proceeds from this fundraising event will help support The Award’s strategic objectives relating to programme development and expansion.

A spokesman for the Duke of Edinburgh Award described the initiative as one of Bermuda’s “leading youth development programmes”, adding: “Our participants thrive as they overcome personal challenges, enhance their employability skill sets, increase their self-confidence, learn much needed critical thinking skills as they head into adulthood and establish positive peer relationships through team building opportunities that the Award offers by following our simple yet comprehensive structure.

“All of these combined lead to the production of well-rounded global citizens who take pride in themselves and in their communities.”

The tournament tees off at 1pm and will be followed by an evening barbecue and prize giving ceremony.

The guest speaker will be Acting Governor Ginny Ferson.
