Lindo’s T20 final postponed

The final knockings of the cricket season were put on hold on Saturday when the Bermuda Cricket Board postponed the Lindo’s T20 final for security reasons related to criminal activity over the weekend.

Willow Cuts and Southampton Rangers were due to meet in the final yesterday at Somerset Cricket Club, where the Island’s top young players were also expected to gather for the BF&M Under-17 All-Star Game, but they will now have to wait after the Board acted on police advice not to proceed.

The BCB circulated a brief release on Saturday at about 10pm which stated that advice had been received of a heightened security risk, making a sports event at this year’s Cup Match venue a non-starter.

Neil Speight, the BCB chief executive, confirmed that the Board had been in communication with the Bermuda Police Service on Saturday and that rescheduling will not be considered until there is further feedback.

On the field, Willow Cuts upset defending champions St David’s in the first semi-final at Lord’s before Southampton beat Bailey’s Bay.

Speight believes the under-17 match is equally important. “We want to make sure they [under-17s] get the right attention and profile they deserve,” he said.
