New claims management body to hold launch

CLM Bermuda president Joshua Schwartz

A new insurance body is to launch tomorrow.

And the Bermuda chapter of the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance (CLM) — the first of its kind on the Island — aims to provide top-notch education professionals in the field.

CLM president Joshua Schwartz said: “We’re thrilled to bring CLM to Bermuda. The CLM Bermuda chapter aims to raise the levels of claims handling and litigation excellence and expertise on the Island.

“We’ve pulled together top brokers, lawyers and claims professionals to serve in key leadership roles within CLM Bermuda.

“It is a privilege to work with these individuals and we look forward to working with many other great professionals on the Island and within the greater CLM community.”

The CLM said it’s mission was to promote the high standards in claims and litigation practice in the insurance industry and plans to hold a series of educational and networking events focused on the industry, including insurance law trends.

The CLM has already awarded two scholarships to claim handlers to study at the CLM Claims College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which offers an intensive training course on claims handling.

CLM education director Mia Finsness said: “These scholarships are wonderful because they give young Bermudian claims handlers exposure to some of the brightest and most experienced claims and legal professionals in the world, including chief claims officers for multinational insurance companies.

“The hope is that they will bring back to Bermuda the skills obtained during this intensive course and enhance the calibre of the insurance community in Bermuda.”

The launch reception, open to interested professionals, will be held at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club tomorrow at 5.30pm.

There is no cost for industry members such as corporate counsel, claims and litigation managers, adjusters and service providers to join.

Outside defence counsel can join as individuals for $485 or for $685 or $985 for firms, depending on size.

Those who enrol in advance will get two complementary cocktails at the event.
